222: a signpost from ourself?
Posted by mike
222 has been with me since ~1996. It started one afternoon whilst traversing a parking lot on foot. A vehicle with the license plate ending in 222 cut me off while walking. Not 10 minutes later I was standing in the office of my attending physician waiting to meet him. I turned my head to look at his medical diploma on the wall (I believe that it contained 5 digits including the 222). The first patient I saw that afternoon either weighed 222 pounds or had a birth day of 2/22…I cannot remember exactly. When I got home and opened my mail that friday my phone bill was $22.22. The next morning while waiting to get a haircut I picked up a magazine and randomly opened it- not to page 222, but to an article about a restaurant 222 in N.Y.C.
I have these flurries of 222 sightings in that I might not see the number for several months (or I might just see it once a day) but then I’ll see it 4 or 5 or 6 times over a relatively short period of time (perhaps 12-24 hours). I have not noticed that I am in any particular emotional state during these flurries. Never has anything harmful nor beneficial happened as a prelude or consequence of the sightings. One time as a medical student while I was walking home from the hospital downtown Toronto I looked up at an L.E.D. sign at 2:22 a.m. which then flashed “Jesus loves you”. That was the first and last time that I had ever seen that on that sign. Now, although I was raised Roman Catholic, I haven’t been a regular church attendee for more than 15 years. My spiritual beliefs are more in line with those of the Baha’i who believe in the oneness of all religions…essentially they believe (my understanding, you can correct me if I am wrong) that Jesus, Mohammed, and other preceding ”prophets” were essentially incarnations or messengers of the same universal message.
I have encountered this “phenomenon” in concert with my former wife. Very uncharacteristically of me (I was always one to analyze to death any potential major life decisions) I intuitively made a huge decision to move in with her after only 3 dates and one weekend spent together. We moved to Montreal. We had an area that we preferred and behold, while looking through the classified section for housing for rent, this area was numbered 222 (Our address was to be 4422). To me it was in fact a signpost that I was exactly where I needed to be in life at that time.
I have also experienced looking at my car odometer at 222, clocks at 222, and awakening from sleep at 2:22 a.m. During one particular flurry event I had a patient of mine announce “Dr., last night I awoke at 2:22 for some reason…can you believe that Dr.?”….THAT was just plain weird.
Now, I am not certain as to whether I actually read, or made up the following hypothesis (and I realize that it may sound “out there”/New Age or whatever). Throughout the human history philosophers have debated as to whether we have a predetermined destiny or freewill. My answer is that we have both. I postulate that each and every one of us has written our own life story whilst we were in a purely spiritual form. We are thus the masters of our fate. We have written into our story various obstacles to overcome - gifts /opportunities to learn the lessons we uniquely need to learn to continue to evolve spiritually. And we have written into our life stories signposts(such as 222) and synchronicities into our lives, as a means of reassurance that we are following our chosen life path. Of course this demands that our memory of writing this story has been erased prior to us assuming human form. Alternatively, the aforementioned hypothesis could be merely the ramblings of someone who is just whacked.
BTW the 11:11 people seem to be a much larger cohort than the 222ers
