This Gene encodes a member of the aldehyde dehydrogenace family, a group of isozymes that may play a major role in the detoxification aldehydes by alcohol metabolism and lipid peroxidation. The gene of this particular is over 10kbs in length. The expression of these transcripts is resticted to the salivary gland among the human tissue examined. Alternate transcriptional splice varients have been characterized.
